This is a monument in honour of Danish refugees during WWII. They crossed the sound in small boats and many arrived in this spot. The beach is called Sibbarp and is located in southern Malmö, Sweden. The monument is made by Bror Marklund, a Swedish artist, and was erected in 1950.

When I grew up this was a popular place to meet up for a day at the beach. Guess what we all called the monument? 🙂

  2. I’m trying to see how it represents Danish refugees or WWII! A ship bollard with rock on top? A buoy and it’s long reflection? 😉

    • I’m not sure, but I read somewhere that some of the refugees (mostly jews) that came ashore, stacked a pair of stones on top of each other to mark out where they landed. I know it doesn’t answer your question 🙂 In my mind it looks like something completely different!
